At Dubrek Studios we wanted to create a welcoming location and atmosphere that encouraged more than just rehearsals and recordings. We wanted to create a space that gave a home to lots of different activities and create a positive community that everyone would be welcome to discover and be a part of.

To that end, over the past five years we have built up a series of regular events in conjunction with various partners. You’re more than welcome to come and discover these for yourself, too! Just get in touch with the contacts listed below and they can give you more information, as well as confirm when their next event will be.

If you are looking for a space to run your group or event and think that Dubrek Studios would be the ideal place, then get in touch with us to discuss it further. We’re always eager to find out how we can support new initiatives, or support existing groups in a way that strengthen our Dubrek Studios community.

Keeping It Crafty

Keeping it Crafty Socials are a monthly creative social for people to regularly get together, get making, learn new things, meet new people, catch up with friends and through all of that, stitch together a local creative community.

Organised and run by Mim Robinson, you can join them on the second Tuesday of the month from 7-9pm at Dubrek Studios on Beckett Street for an evening of have-a-go crafts, a brew and a chat. Fiver per person to do the have-a-go crafts (which are different each time – all materials and instructions provided, just turn up and make!), or bring your own creative project and join us for £3. Non-crafters also welcome!

Bearded Badger Indie Bookshop

Bearded Badger Publishing Co. are keen to connect with the community, and see it as an essential to supporting East Midlands modern fiction and poetry writers. Paul Handley and his team take residence in the Dubrek Studios café to create a place where people can come and browse a carefully curated selection of books, both new and used, enjoy a coffee / tea or something stronger, and relax. Occasionally the nights feature a short poetry performance, or book reading.

The range of literature that they bring to the night is quite impressive, some come along and find something new to did your eyes and soul into.

Felt Tipsy

Dubrek Studios alongside the wonderfully creative Fine Art Students of the University of Derby host a ‘drink and draw’ session on the first Tuesday of each month from 7 pm in the Dubrek Café.

If you enjoy drawing and doodling, playing or listening to varied music whilst getting a little tipsy then come on down for a relaxed social!

Felt Tipsy is a great way to get your creative ideas flowing and meet other passionate creatives. There is usually a loose theme each week if you need an inspirational prompt, but anything goes when you’re there.

If you prefer to use your own materials, bring them down! If you don’t have any, or don’t want to lug them around, we have some basic materials such as paper, pens, pencils, colouring pencils/felts, and basic watercolour that you are welcome to make use of.

3D – Derby Djembe Drummers

3D – Derby Djembe Drummers are a group of Djembe and Dunun percussionists that meet most Wednesdays in the Dubrek Studios Café to learn rhythms new and old. They occasionally go busking in Derby, as well as perform relaxed workshops at various fun-days, art trails and carnivals.

They meet around 7 pm, and rehearse for around two hours with a tea/coffee/beer break in the middle for a bit of a social. They’re a friendly bunch, and always happy to help complete beginners, as well as welcome more able drummers looking to ‘keep their hand in’ with something light.

Sessions are £7 per person, £5 for over-60s/students/unwaged. We do ask that you get in touch ahead of the session that you wish to attend so that we can ensure we have enough drums and space available.
